چکیده

Several mafic-ultramafic layered intrusions were emplaced in the NE Fennoscandian Shield during a magmatic episode at 2.44 Ga. The Paleoproterozoic Näränkävaara intrusion, northern Finland, is one of largest ultramafic bodies Shield, with surface area 25 km x 5 and stratigraphic thickness ~3 km. intrusion comprises 1.3 km-thick peridotitic–dioritic series (2436 ± Ma) two peridotitic reversals, 1.5–2 thick basal dunite mainly composed olivine adcumulates (dated here). has been studied since 1960’s, but several questions regarding its structure petrogenesis remain. shows lithological features typical komatiitic rather than intrusive cumulates; namely, >1 “extreme” adcumulates, some showing textures bimodal grain sizes, oscillating variations Mg# height, poikilitic chromite. With Archean greenstone belts nearby, it was previously hypothesized that could represent an wall rock to series. However, our new U-Pb ID-TIMS baddeleyite age 2441.7 0.9 Ma for are co-genetic. New whole-rock Sm-Nd isotope data from key units (initial εNd 2440 -3.5 -1.7) indicate constructed repeated emplacement LREE-enriched high-MgO basaltic magmas mantle-derived contaminated by crust, similarly other Ga intrusions. parental show similar compositions regardless position, suggesting most contamination homogenization had occurred before emplacement, situ being relatively minor process. open-system suggest may have formed (at least partly) as feeder channel cumulate, possibly related ~100 long Koillismaa-Näränkävaara Layered Igneous Complex. variably depleted metal ratios potential orthomagmatic mineral deposits, given availability S-rich rocks.

THE AGE OF TISSINT: Sm-Nd & Rb-Sr ISOTOPE SYSTEMATICS OF A MARTIAN METEORITE FALL

Introduction: The recently acquired meteorite Tissint is the first recognized fall of a depleted shergottite. Other such shergottites were found in the hot deserts (e.g., NWA 1195, Dhofar 019, DAG 476) or in the Antarctic cold desert (e.g., QUE 94201, Y980459) and, in many cases, have disturbed isotopic systematics due to terrestrial contamination [1-4]. Tissint represents the freshest sample o...

Multi-step TIMS and CA-TIMS monazite U–Pb geochronology

Multi-step chemical abrasion thermal ionization mass spectrometry (CA-TIMS) methods were developed for monazite using six samples that vary in composition and age—Amelia, Jefferson County, Burke, Elk Mountain, 554 and Madagascar. To evaluate whether the multi-step CA-TIMS approach reveals complexities in either age or composition that might be masked by single-step analysis, this study presents...

Constraints on the U-Pb isotopic systematics of Mars inferred from a combined U-Pb, Rb-Sr, and Sm-Nd isotopic study of the Martian meteorite Zagami

Uranium-lead, Rb-Sr, and Sm-Nd isotopic analyses have been performed on the same whole-rock, mineral, and leachate fractions of the basaltic martian meteorite Zagami to better constrain the U-Pb isotopic systematics of martian materials. Although the Rb-Sr and Sm-Nd systems define concordant crystallization ages of 166 6 Ma and 166 12 Ma, respectively, the U-Pb isotopic system is disturbed. Nev...

The origin of geochemical diversity of lunar mantle sources inferred from the combined U–Pb, Rb–Sr, and Sm–Nd isotope systematics of mare basalt 10017

The results of our combined U–Pb, Rb–Sr, and Sm–Nd isotope study of mare basalt 10017 contribute to the understanding of the petrogenetic processes involved in the origin of geochemical diversity in lunar mare basalt sources, as well as the U–Pb isotope systematics of the Moon. The Rb–Sr, Sm–Nd, and U–Pb isotope systems yield concordant crystallization ages of 3.633 ± 0.057 Ga, 3.678 ± 0.069 Ga...
